Positive & Negative

Positive number: 3
Negative number: -3
Simple, really.

#### MULTIPLICATION

Positive x Positive = Positive
3 x 3 = 9

Positive x Negative OR Negative x Positive (because we believe in equal rights) = Negative
3 x -3 OR -3 x 3 = -9

Negative x Negative = Positive
-3 x -3 = 9

#### DIVISION

Same as above, except, you know, with a divide-y sign instead of a multiplication one.

#### ADDITION

Positive + Positive = Positive
3 + 3 = 6

Positive + Negative = Works out to be a subtraction. With a free red herring.
3 + -2 = 3 - 2
3 + -2 = 1
3 + -3 = 0
3 + -4 = -1

Negative + Positive = Erm, the answer's bigger than the negative number. Beyond that…
-3 + 2 = -1
-3 + 3 = 0
-3 + 4 = 1

Negative+ Negative = Negative, again, it's a subtraction
-3 + -3 = -6

You see, 3 + -1 = 3 - 1, and so forth.

#### SUBTRACTION

Positive - Positive = Depends on the size, but the answer is smaller than the original positive number.
3 - 1 = 2
3 - 3 = 0
3 - 4= -1

Positive - Negative = Positive
3 - -3 = 6 which is equal to 3 + 3 = 6

The minuses cancel each other out and become a plus.

Negative - Negative = Depends on the size, but the answer is bigger than the original
-3 - -3 = -3 + 3 = 0
-3 - -2 = -1

The minuses cancel each other out.

Negative - Positive = Negative
-3 - 3 = -6

It.
Makes.
SENSE.

To some of us anyway. <_<
